New School Year: Activated
NEWS UPDATE
Sports Camp Reaches New Heights. On September 19th, our Junior cohort kicked off the 6th season of LEAD’s Peak Performance Sports Camp, and this fall is shaping up to be our best yet. Our student-athletes are stepping up as leaders, providing Saturday morning soccer, basketball, and football coaching to returning participants and more than 20 new students. Through their commitment and leadership, LEAD students are demonstrating what sustainable, student-led community service looks like.

LEAD Helps Launch Beyond the Block. LEAD is not the only organization doing good work in East Charlotte, and we were thrilled when our Sophomore cohort was invited to help Urban Promise launch their new speaker series, Beyond the Block, on October 8th. LEAD’s 10th graders designed and then implemented a 45 minute presentation on Peer Pressure and Conflict Resolution to over two dozen middle school students. These 10th graders are ready for primetime!

LEAD Raises the Ceiling…Literally. On September 8th, the Senior cohort ripped the ceiling out of the LEAD Student Center. It was the first step in a planned long-term renovation designed to modernize the center and make it a more welcoming space for our students and guests. A huge shout-out to Marolf Construction for their generous gifts of time and services in helping our students get this started.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Cars And Coffee, November 7th
The Junior Cohort will host a Cars and Coffee Fundraiser on November 7th from 10am-12pm. The event will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. To register your car please click here.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT:
Joel Martinez, Class of 2027
Joel Martinez is part of the Senior class in LEAD. Despite living one of the farthest distances from LEAD of any student, Joel has used his voice, his confidence and his experience to leave a legacy in his cohort. He was recently elected by his peers to serve on the LEAD Student Council for his senior year, one of the highest honors in LEAD. We look forward to finishing the journey with Joel this year!
